I Hear and I forget. I See and I Remember. I Do and I Understand.

Currently, I teach 7th grade math to approximately 120 Arabic female students at Al Danat Cycle 2 School. The Cycle 2 school (6th - 8th grade) is located in a small rural town 3.5 hours outside of Dubai. Arabic traditions and core values of Islam is embedded in students' education. Part of my responsibilities as an English Medium Teacher is to incorporate 21st century skills into my lessons, implement effective teaching practices and focus on improving student achievement. You will notice I use various learning and teaching strategies to help motivate and engage my students in their learning. Throughout the years, I've used various foldables, math manipulatives and technology to support the Say, See, Do Teaching Model. In Fred Jones Tools for Teaching, he explains that Say, See, Do Teaching promotes learning by doing and creates structure practice. I also obtain additional resources from Teachers Pay Teachers, which are organized in my Pinterest for future reference. Please view the evidence I've provided of my engaging student-centered classroom.

Welcome to my classroom!

Math Interactive Notebooks

Math Interactive Notebooks (MIN) give my students ownership of their learning process, and help them develop better study skills. I provide guided notes in the form of graphic organizers and foldables. Using the graphic organizers and foldables in students’ MIN promotes organization and increases focus on the main objective of the lesson. Also, the MIN incorporates learning strategies for students who speak English as a Second Language (ESL) and who receives Special Education Services. I’ve noticed my learners are less dependent on my support due to the resources in their Math Interactive Notebook, which allows more time for me to facilitate and observe students’ learning.

Student Engagement

Integrating math manipulatives, interactive games, and visual representations are a few teaching tools I use to help encourage student engagement. I consistently make conscious efforts to choose activities that attracts various learning styles. Throughout the week, I use the Engagement Wheel to reflect on the level of engagement I provide during various lessons. My passion for motivating students to excel in mathematics is reflected in their work samples and class activities.
