My Master of Arts Educational Technology Annotated Coursework

CEP: Counseling Educational Psychology, and Special Education    TE: Teacher Education

Spring  2013

Melissa White

This was my fist course in the program. In this course, I learned the difference between Blended Learning and Flipped Classrooms. I also learned how to analyze interactive tools to assist students with complex problems in the classroom. From this course onward, I apply my understanding of Blended Learning and analyzing interactive tools in my middle school classroom to create a more relevant learning experience for my students .

Spring  2013

Susan Wright

In this course, I created my first blog. I was very apprehensive about sharing my identity and personal thoughts online for everyone to see. However, once I created my professional online identity and recognize the affordance of having an outlet for reflection, I began to appreciate the journey. I frequently revisited the sight to reflect on my personal growth.

Summer  2014

Andrew Steinman

During this course, I was given the opportunity to find a technology tool that could support students with a special learning need of my choice. I focused my attention on connecting technology with phonological processing and phonological awareness. In this course I evaluated interactive tools that would provide purposeful practice and reinforcement of reading strategies for students. I continuously search for learning tools that provide assistance to students with special learning needs and students with English as a Second Language.

Fall  2014

Dr. Anne Heintz

In this course, I designed an online learning environment using CourseSites by Blackboard. I apply my understanding of  Universal Design for Learning framework to support students' learning differences. I embedded vocabulary links, recording tools and choice activities for students. This course pushed me to consistently take in consideration of students who receive Special Education services and students who speak English as a Second Language.

Spring  2015

Dr. Yi-Ling Cheng

Unexpectedly, this course improved my comfort level in finding reading and writing strategies for my diverse learners. Fortunately for me, this course assisted in my efforts to become more aware of incorporating motivating techniques for my students who speak English as a Second Language (ESL). I had the opportunity to merge my experiences from CEP 812 of evaluating interactive tools that would provide reinforcement of reading strategies with demonstrating my ability to make accommodations for my diverse learners. These strategies help create a more engaging and safe learning space for my ESL students.

Fall  2015

Personally, this was my most challenging course. I struggled with truly grasping the difference between formative and summative assessment. Two concepts that influenced my perception of how to check for students' understanding are moving assessments toward the middle and teaching for transfer. To this day, I use more formative assessments to guide my teaching and check for understanding.

Even though I very seldom view myself  having strong leadership qualities, I am most proud of the product I produced in this course. I had the opportunity to simulate the responsibilities of a Technology Coach and create an engaging STEM presentation. I was also introduced to 7 leadership styles. This experience gave me more confidence to pursue a leadership position. I realized I'm just contributing my expertise and my passion for integrating technology.

Summer  2017

Dr. Cary Roseth

From this course, I gained personal growth toward understanding the relationship between Bandura's Social Learning Theory and my teaching practices. As an experienced teacher, I value the significance of rituals, routines and modeling in the classroom. Unbeknownst to me, there is a direct correlation between my teaching practices and observational learning. In the past, I struggled with sharing my strategies with colleagues on how to interact with students with special needs, autistic students, and students with behavioral issues. Now that I understand the relationship between my practical knowledge and Bandura's Social Leaning Theory, I can confidently support my colleagues.

Fall  2017

Dr. Sarah Gretter

Patrick Beymer

Initially, I was overwhelmed by the thought of doing research in true research form. However, I took heed to the tricks of the trade. I was introduced to Google Scholar, learned how to refine my search and I found an appreciation for the process. Towards the end of my journey, I learned that my teaching pedagogy and practices are valuable. Learning how to validate my teaching methods and beliefs through research is priceless.

This is my final course towards earning my Master of Arts in Educational Technology. The Capstone Portfolio course provided me the opportunity to reflect on my growth through my coursework. As I developed my final project, I received feedback from both my peers and instructions, reflected on my progress and made revisions as needed. I was truly an active member of the learning process. The Capstone Portfolio course is an authentic representation of Assessment as Learning, Assessment for Learning and Assessment of Learning. Now I have the pleasure of showcasing my work to fellow colleagues and potential employers.
